Burlington, VT – Rain will begin falling across Vermont just after midnight as a cold front moves into the region, setting up a wet and stormy end to the weekend.

According to the National Weather Service in Burlington, most locations will see precipitation probabilities rise above 50% between 1 a.m. and 3 a.m. Sunday, with widespread showers continuing through the morning. The chance of thunderstorms increases sharply Sunday afternoon, peaking between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. in areas like Middlebury, Williston, and Montpelier, where chances top 75%.

Cities including Saint Albans, Springfield, and Rutland are also expected to see heavy rain and potential thunderstorms during the afternoon hours, which could lead to localized street flooding and hazardous travel conditions. Residents are urged to avoid outdoor activities during peak thunderstorm periods and keep devices charged in case of isolated outages.

The precipitation is tied to an advancing cold front expected to bring slightly cooler, less humid air by Monday. Sunday marks one of the wettest days of the month so far for northern Vermont.

Showers will taper off by Sunday evening, but drivers should remain cautious on wet roads into the night. Additional updates may be issued if storms become severe.
