Baltimore, MD – Baltimore and the D.C. metro area are bracing for a cold front that will drive temperatures into the 20s and 30s, the National Weather Service (NWS) announced. Conditions tonight will be dry, but expect lows in the mid-20s in higher altitudes and mid-30s closer to the coast.
The high-pressure system will keep the area dry through Wednesday afternoon, with daytime highs ranging from the upper 40s to low 50s. However, clouds will build ahead of the next weather front arriving from the west Wednesday evening, bringing mixed precipitation.
According to the NWS, precipitation will likely start in the mountains Wednesday night, transitioning into rain by early Thursday. Areas at higher altitudes, such as the Allegheny Mountains, could see sleet or freezing rain before the precipitation turns entirely to rain.
By Thursday, rain will cover most of the region, with expected accumulations of up to three-quarters of an inch. The NWS advises residents to prepare for colder weather and wet roads through Thursday morning.
