Jackson, KY – The National Weather Service in Jackson reports that eastern Kentucky will see a sharp drop in temperatures early next week, with the first snow of the season increasingly likely by Monday morning.
After a mild Saturday with highs in the upper 60s, a strong cold front is expected to move through the region Sunday, bringing rain followed by a changeover to snow as much colder air settles in overnight. Forecast lows are expected to plunge into the mid-20s by Monday, with daytime highs struggling to reach the 30s.
According to the NWS, light snow accumulations are most likely on grassy and elevated surfaces, especially in mountainous areas near the Virginia state line, where snow showers may persist the longest. Roads are expected to remain mostly wet, but brief slick spots could develop early Monday, particularly in higher terrain.
Snow chances will taper off Monday afternoon as dry air moves in. Temperatures will remain well below normal through midweek, with morning lows in the 20s and highs in the 40s to near 50 by Wednesday.
Residents are advised to monitor local forecasts for the latest details on timing and snow totals as the system approaches.
