A sharp cold front is set to sweep through Arkansas this weekend, bringing a noticeable drop in temperatures once today’s rain comes to an end. The National Weather Service in Little Rock reports that much colder air will settle into the state tonight, leading to widespread freezing temperatures by early Sunday morning.
Highs today will still reach the upper 40s to lower 50s across much of the state, but colder air arrives quickly after sunset. By Sunday morning, temperatures are expected to fall into the low to mid-20s in northern Arkansas, with upper 20s to low 30s across central and southern parts of the state. Fayetteville, Harrison, Mountain Home, and Clinton are forecast to bottom out in the 22–26° range. Little Rock is projected to fall to around 29°, while Pine Bluff, Searcy, Texarkana, and West Memphis will hover near or just below the freezing mark.
This push of colder air will linger into early next week. The temperature outlook shows consistent overnight lows in the 20s and low 30s through at least Wednesday, with daytime highs generally in the 40s and low 50s. While no significant winter precipitation is expected at this time, the colder pattern will be firmly in place across the region.
Residents should take precautions now, especially with temperatures dipping into hard-freeze territory in parts of northern Arkansas. Sensitive plants, outdoor pets, and exposed pipes may need extra protection overnight. Drivers should also be aware that any remaining moisture on bridges or elevated roads may freeze late tonight into early Sunday morning.
As weather conditions stabilize after today’s rain, attention will turn to additional systems later in the week that could bring more precipitation. For now, Arkansas will experience its coldest temperatures of the season as the weekend wraps up.
