DAVENPORT, Iowa – A cold front sweeping across eastern Iowa and western Illinois Monday is bringing a 40 to 70 percent chance of showers and isolated thunderstorms through tonight, ending several days of unseasonably warm weather. Highs are expected to range from the lower 60s northwest to the mid-80s southeast before cooler air settles in overnight.
According to the National Weather Service Quad Cities, not all areas will see rain, but any storms that develop could produce brief heavy downpours and gusty winds. The front will also push temperatures back to near seasonal norms for the remainder of the week.
By Tuesday, skies clear to a mix of sun and clouds with highs in the upper 60s. Northerly winds of 10 to 20 mph will bring a crisp fall feel to the region. Midweek looks calm and pleasant, with mostly sunny skies Wednesday through Friday and daytime highs hovering around 70 degrees.
Residents are advised to use caution on evening commutes as wet roads and patchy fog may develop behind the front.
