Jackson, KY – A cold front is set to sweep through East Kentucky Friday evening, bringing rain and transitioning to snow overnight.
Rain is expected to begin Friday afternoon as temperatures hover near 37°F, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Jackson. By late evening, the precipitation will change to snow as temperatures drop to 28°F. While snowfall is expected to remain light, with less than half an inch of accumulation, slick road conditions may develop on major routes like KY-15 and KY-30, especially during early morning hours.
Saturday morning could see lingering flurries before clearing by noon, but the region will remain cold, with highs reaching only 37°F. The cold spell will persist into Sunday, which is expected to bring sunshine and slightly warmer conditions.
Heading into early next week, East Kentucky could see a brief warm-up, with rain chances increasing Monday night into Tuesday. Christmas Eve and Christmas Day are forecast to be milder but rainy. Residents should remain alert for changing weather conditions and monitor forecasts for updates, especially regarding potential holiday travel disruptions.
