Lincoln, IL – A cold front moving through Illinois will trigger showers and thunderstorms across central and southeast portions of the state today and tonight, according to the National Weather Service in Central Illinois.
Forecasters say a few severe storms are possible east of the Illinois River this afternoon and evening, with strong wind gusts, heavy rain, and lightning being the primary threats.
Rain chances increase to 90% tonight, followed by clearing skies and cooler air Sunday. High temperatures will drop from near 80°F Saturday to around 60°F Sunday, with northwest winds gusting between 35 and 45 mph expected during the morning hours.
After the front passes, conditions will turn sunny and seasonable early next week, with highs in the 60s Monday through Wednesday.
Residents are advised to secure outdoor items, monitor weather alerts, and prepare for rapidly changing conditions as the front moves through.
