Amarillo, TX – The National Weather Service in Amarillo is cautioning residents across the Texas Panhandle to stay alert for possible isolated thunderstorms late Sunday into early Monday morning.
According to the agency, chances for storms remain low through Sunday evening — generally around 10–20%. However, after 1 a.m. Monday, those chances increase slightly as a cold front moves through the region.
While severe weather is not expected to be widespread, forecasters say a few isolated storms could turn strong. The NWS noted that wind gusts up to 60 mph and hail up to the size of quarters would be the main hazards if any storms become severe.
Storm activity is most likely to occur between 1 a.m. and 7 a.m. Monday, with the best chances stretching from Dalhart and Borger to Perryton and Beaver. Lightning, strong winds, and brief heavy rainfall are also possible.
Officials urge residents to have multiple ways to receive weather alerts overnight, including phone notifications or NOAA weather radios.
