La Crosse, WI — Southwest Wisconsin residents should prepare for hazardous weather this weekend as a storm system moves through the region. Starting late Friday night, a wintry mix of snow, freezing rain, and sleet is expected to create challenging travel conditions.
According to the National Weather Service, the system will bring a 90% chance of precipitation by early Saturday. Snow and sleet are forecasted to begin after midnight, potentially transitioning to freezing rain before sunrise. Temperatures on Friday will peak at 22°F before dropping to a low of 16°F overnight, creating a risk of icy roads on major highways like Interstate 90 and State Road 16.
Saturday’s high is expected to reach 37°F as snow transitions to rain by midday. Accumulation is expected to be minimal, with less than half an inch of snow and sleet anticipated. However, drivers are urged to monitor weather updates and prepare for slippery conditions during early travel hours.
The extended forecast shows a warming trend starting Sunday, with temperatures reaching the upper 30s and mostly cloudy skies. Monday brings a 50% chance of rain, further easing winter conditions.
Residents are advised to secure winter safety kits for travel and limit unnecessary trips during periods of freezing precipitation. Stay tuned to local weather reports for the latest updates.
