Goodland, Kansas – A crisp fall morning is underway across northwest Kansas and southwest Nebraska, where temperatures are dipping into the low 30s and frost is forming in sheltered valleys. The National Weather Service in Goodland has continued a Frost Advisory through 10 a.m. MDT / 11 a.m. CDT Tuesday for Cheyenne, Sherman, Thomas, and Sheridan counties in Kansas, as well as Dundy and Hitchcock counties in Nebraska.
According to forecasters, morning lows around 32–33°F will create widespread frost, particularly in low-lying and rural areas near Goodland, Colby, and Benkelman. The calm winds and clear skies overnight have allowed temperatures to fall rapidly, marking one of the coldest mornings so far this fall.
The National Weather Service warns that frost could damage or kill unprotected plants, flowers, and garden crops. Residents should cover or bring in sensitive vegetation and drain outdoor plumbing or sprinkler systems to prevent freezing.
According to county emergency management officials, temperatures will rebound quickly by midmorning with abundant sunshine and highs near 55 degrees. Another cool night is expected Wednesday, but a gradual warmup is forecast to return to the High Plains later in the week.
