Flagstaff, AZ – Arizona forestry officials plan two prescribed fire projects southwest of Flagstaff beginning Monday, November 3, to reduce wildfire risks and improve forest health, according to the Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management (DFFM).

The first project, called Crusher RX, will cover about 65 acres along State Route 89A, roughly 10 miles south of Flagstaff. Ignitions are set for Monday morning, with light to moderate smoke expected to drift across the highway throughout the day. Electronic signs will alert drivers to the project area.

The second project, Rogers Lake RX, will begin Tuesday, November 4, on 150 acres northwest of Rogers Lake and southwest of Flagstaff. Smoke from this burn is forecast to move northeast, potentially affecting nearby neighborhoods and areas near Interstate 40.

According to DFFM, both projects are one-day operations aimed at clearing hazardous vegetation, restoring healthy Ponderosa Pine, and reducing the likelihood of severe wildfires. Officials say smoke impacts should diminish by evening each day.

Arizona Forestry works with the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ) to monitor air quality and ensure community safety. All prescribed burns require ADEQ approval before ignition and may be rescheduled if weather conditions are unfavorable.
