VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Swimmers and surfers along the Virginia and Maryland beaches should use caution Monday as a moderate rip current risk remains in effect through this evening. The National Weather Service in Wakefield issued the alert early Monday, warning of dangerous surf along the coasts of Virginia Beach, the Eastern Shore, and parts of northeast North Carolina.
According to the National Weather Service, the risk level means stronger-than-normal currents could pull swimmers away from shore. Beachgoers are urged to swim near lifeguards and avoid venturing into deeper water, especially during the outgoing tide. Spotter activation is not expected, and no other hazardous weather is forecast for the rest of the week.
Weather conditions across Virginia Beach remain calm and clear, with mostly sunny skies and a high near 76°F today. By Tuesday, temperatures climb to the upper 70s before showers return midweek. Wednesday brings the best chance for rain and isolated thunderstorms, followed by cooler, breezy conditions into Thursday.
Warnings are expected to expire by this evening as surf gradually subsides.
