Virginia Beach, VA – Large, dangerous waves and powerful rip currents are expected to impact Virginia Beach and neighboring coastal areas all day Saturday, raising serious safety concerns for swimmers and beachgoers.

According to the National Weather Service in Wakefield, a Beach Hazards Statement remains in effect from Saturday morning through 8 p.m. Saturday. The advisory covers all Virginia Beach oceanfronts, the Maryland Beaches, and stretches down to Eastern Currituck County in North Carolina, as well as Accomack and Northampton counties. Forecasters warn of breaking waves between 4 and 7 feet, creating hazardous surf and a high risk of rip currents.

Residents and visitors in Virginia Beach, Oceanfront, Sandbridge, and Cape Henry are urged to stay out of the water, especially as longshore currents increase throughout the day. Even experienced swimmers could be swept away in these conditions. Local authorities recommend avoiding all ocean swimming, watching children closely near the shore, and following flag warnings posted by lifeguards.

The hazardous surf is expected to subside Saturday evening, but officials caution that more alerts could be issued if conditions worsen or linger into Sunday. Stay tuned for updates from the National Weather Service and local emergency agencies.
