Virginia Beach, Va. – Swimmers and surfers across Virginia’s coast face dangerous rip currents this weekend, with high risk flagged for southern beaches and moderate risk along northern stretches through Monday. Despite the surf threat, much of the region will enjoy sunny skies and comfortable late-summer warmth.

According to the National Weather Service in Wakefield, temperatures will reach the upper 70s along the coast and climb into the low 80s inland, with mostly to partly sunny skies Saturday and Sunday. The dry pattern holds Monday before shower chances increase Monday night.

Beachgoers should exercise extreme caution at Sandbridge, Corolla, and other southern beaches where rip currents are strongest. Moderate hazards extend northward toward Ocean City, Md. Officials urge swimmers to stay near lifeguards and avoid venturing into deeper water.

Inland, Richmond, Williamsburg, and Petersburg will see quiet weather and comfortable evenings with lows dipping into the 50s and low 60s. Travel conditions remain favorable across highways this weekend, though coastal visitors are advised to remain alert near the surf.

Shower chances grow by late Monday, signaling the next change in weather. Rip current advisories remain in effect until early Tuesday.
