Norfolk, Va. – Inland Virginia will see another dry, sunny day Saturday, with highs in the lower 80s and clear skies. But along the coast, conditions in the water could turn dangerous, with a high rip current risk in place from Virginia Beach south to the Outer Banks.

According to the National Weather Service in Wakefield, breaking waves of 4 to 6 feet and choppy surf will make swimming hazardous. The high risk remains in effect through Saturday evening, with the threat easing to a moderate level Sunday and Monday. Beachgoers are urged to swim only near lifeguards and avoid unguarded stretches of shoreline.

Richmond, Petersburg, and Farmville will reach 82 to 88 degrees under mostly sunny skies. Coastal communities such as Norfolk, Virginia Beach, and Chincoteague will top out in the upper 70s, making it an appealing day for sand and sun — but not for venturing far into the surf.

Authorities advise checking with local lifeguards, staying out of rough waters, and keeping a close watch on children near the shore.
