Charleston, S.C. – Beachgoers in Charleston will face dangerous surf conditions through Thursday evening as a High Surf Advisory remains in effect, with thunderstorms likely to complicate outdoor plans into the weekend. The National Weather Service warns of strong rip currents and hazardous waves continuing along the South Carolina coast.

According to the National Weather Service in Charleston, storm chances increase beginning Friday with scattered thunderstorms expected each afternoon and evening through Sunday. Rainfall amounts could reach half an inch, with locally higher totals possible in stronger storms. Winds will shift to the southeast at 10 to 15 mph, helping fuel unsettled conditions along the coast.

Charleston-area residents may see periods of heavy rain Friday and Saturday, with the likelihood of storms rising to 60 percent by Sunday. Travel along U.S. 17 and I-26 could be slowed by downpours, while Folly Beach, Isle of Palms, and Sullivan’s Island remain under a heightened rip current risk. Swimmers are advised to avoid the water, while drivers should be prepared for slick roads during evening commutes.

The stormy pattern is expected to linger into early next week, with scattered showers possible through Tuesday before conditions gradually improve.
