Charleston, South Carolina – A Flood Watch remains in effect through late Sunday night for much of the South Carolina Lowcountry and coastal Georgia, with heavy rain bands expected to bring widespread street flooding and rising creeks. Rainfall totals could reach 1 to 3 inches for most areas, with localized amounts over 5 inches where storms linger.
According to the National Weather Service in Charleston, saturated ground conditions from recent rain mean flooding could develop quickly, especially in urban zones with poor drainage such as downtown Charleston, Savannah, and Beaufort. Roads near tidal creeks and rivers, including the Ashley, Cooper, and Savannah rivers, are particularly vulnerable.
Communities from Hilton Head Island to Edisto Beach, and inland towns like Summerville, Walterboro, and Moncks Corner, may see closures of flood-prone streets. Travel could be further complicated near low-lying stretches of U.S. 17 and I-526 during periods of heavy rain.
Residents are urged to avoid driving through flooded roadways, secure outdoor belongings, and be prepared to move to higher ground if water levels rise. The flood threat is expected to diminish by early Monday, but any additional heavy showers could keep water levels high into the morning commute.
