Raleigh, North Carolina – Residents woke up to patchy drizzle and overcast skies Friday, as a stubborn round of light rain and low clouds kept much of central North Carolina gray to start the day. According to the National Weather Service in Raleigh, scattered showers will redevelop by midday, especially across the Coastal Plain and eastern Sandhills, where brief downpours could impact drivers on highways like US-1 and I-95.
The morning’s damp, gloomy conditions are expected to improve slightly in the afternoon, with clouds thinning over the Piedmont and a few breaks of sun possible for cities such as Raleigh, Durham, and Chapel Hill. However, another round of showers remains possible east of the Triangle, so anyone traveling toward Fayetteville or Goldsboro should keep rain gear handy.
Temperatures will stay on the mild side, running 5 to 10 degrees below average, with most towns topping out in the upper 70s to low 80s. Outdoor plans may still be a go in the Triangle later today, but anyone along the I-95 corridor should stay weather aware and prepare for spotty, fast-moving showers.
Rain chances ease overnight, but more updates could follow if new advisories are issued heading into the weekend.
