Newport, NC – Eastern North Carolina faces another hot and muggy day with temperatures climbing into the upper 80s and low 90s, alongside increased chances for showers and thunderstorms moving inland from the coast Tuesday.

According to the National Weather Service Newport/Morehead City office, highs will reach the mid to upper 80s near the coast, with inland areas pushing into the low 90s. The morning’s coastal activity is expected to gradually shift inland, raising the likelihood of scattered showers and thunderstorms throughout the day. Heat indices could soar between 95 and 102 degrees, intensifying the muggy conditions.

Cities like New Bern, Kinston, and Plymouth may experience temperatures around 90 degrees, while coastal communities such as Morehead City and Cedar Island will see highs in the mid to upper 80s. Residents are advised to stay hydrated, seek shade during peak afternoon hours, and be prepared for sudden downpours and lightning. Additionally, a low rip current risk is noted from Duck to Surf City along the coast.

Warnings and watches remain in effect through Tuesday evening, with the National Weather Service monitoring conditions closely. More updates will be issued if necessary as thunderstorms move inland.
