WILMINGTON, N.C. – Thunderstorms will remain a steady concern for southeastern North Carolina through early next week, with heavy rain and lightning possible during peak weekend travel hours.
According to the National Weather Service in Wilmington, showers and thunderstorms are likely Saturday afternoon and evening, with rain chances reaching 80%. The unsettled pattern will persist Sunday and Monday, when storms could again bring downpours and possible localized flooding.
Saturday’s high near 83°F will give way to muggy conditions overnight, with lows around 60°F. Wilmington, Belville, and surrounding areas can expect the highest rainfall during the afternoon and evening hours, where travel on U.S. 17 and I-140 may be slowed by standing water and reduced visibility.
Residents are urged to keep devices charged in case of lightning-related outages and to avoid flooded roads. Outdoor events along the Cape Fear Riverfront and nearby beaches could face interruptions, especially Saturday and Sunday evenings.
Showers are expected to linger into Tuesday, before the pattern breaks midweek. Weather alerts remain in effect through Monday night, with further advisories possible if flooding risks increase.
