Morehead City, NC – Residents across eastern North Carolina should prepare for hazardous weather through Tuesday as a coastal low pressure system brings heavy rainfall, strong winds, and coastal flooding risks.

According to the National Weather Service in Morehead City, the storm system is expected to drop between 2 and 4 inches of rain across much of the region, with the heaviest totals forecast for the northern coastal plain. This rain could lead to localized flooding in low-lying areas and along rivers.

Wind gusts are another concern, with the NWS projecting peak gusts ranging from 30 to 48 miles per hour through Tuesday night. A Wind Advisory remains in effect for coastal counties through tonight, with conditions expected to gradually ease by midweek.

Forecasters also warn of multiple coastal hazards, including beach erosion and minor storm surge flooding. In addition, the system carries the potential for brief, weak tornadoes associated with embedded thunderstorms.

Residents are urged to monitor local forecasts, secure loose outdoor objects, and use caution when traveling, especially in areas prone to flooding.
