Atlantic Coast – A widespread round of Coastal Flood Advisories and High Surf Alerts remains in effect across the Mid-Atlantic and Southeast coasts, from New Jersey through North Carolina, as strong onshore winds and elevated tides continue to impact the shoreline.
The National Weather Service reports up to one foot of inundation in low-lying coastal and bayside areas, with some roads becoming impassable during high tide cycles. Areas facing persistent flooding include Cape May, Atlantic City, Lewes, Norfolk, Virginia Beach, and the Outer Banks.
Flooding Impacts:
- Minor tidal flooding expected along bays, rivers, and inlets.
- Roads, parking lots, and low-lying yards may experience shallow flooding.
- Localized beach erosion is possible, particularly near Virginia Beach, the Delmarva Peninsula, and the Outer Banks.
High Surf & Rip Current Risks:
- Wave heights: 8–15 feet in parts of VA, NC, and MD surf zones.
- Dangerous swimming and surfing conditions are expected through Thursday.
- Rip currents may sweep swimmers into deeper water; beachgoers are urged to stay near lifeguards or remain out of the water entirely.
High tides and coastal flooding will coincide during the afternoon and overnight hours each day through Thursday night, before gradually subsiding as winds shift offshore late week.
Residents are advised not to drive through flooded roads, to secure loose outdoor items, and to monitor local tide gauges and NWS updates for location-specific flood information.
