Newport, NC – The National Weather Service has issued a Coastal Flood Advisory and High Surf Advisory for parts of North Carolina’s Outer Banks, including Carteret and Dare Counties, lasting until noon EDT Sunday. The affected areas include Bogue Banks, Ocracoke Island, and parts of the Pamlico, Core, and Albemarle Sounds. Minor flooding of up to 2 feet above ground level is expected near shorelines and tidal waterways, posing risks to homes, businesses, and roads.

In addition, a High Surf Advisory will be in effect from 6 a.m. Friday until noon Sunday, with waves between 5 to 8 feet anticipated along the coast. These conditions will result in dangerous rip currents, beach erosion, and difficult swimming conditions.

Residents and travelers should be prepared for potential road closures and flooding of vehicles. Those in the affected areas should avoid traveling through floodwaters, as depth and currents can be deceiving and dangerous. Swimming is discouraged due to the elevated rip current risk.
