Houston, TX – The National Weather Service has issued a Coastal Flood Advisory and a High Rip Current Risk for the Texas Gulf Coast, including the Matagorda Peninsula, Brazoria County beaches, Galveston Island, and the Bolivar Peninsula. These warnings are in effect through 10 p.m. CDT this evening.
Minor coastal flooding is expected, which may impact parks, lots, and some roads along the coast. Isolated road closures are possible, so travelers should allow for extra time and avoid driving through any flooded areas. Additionally, dangerous rip currents pose a threat to swimmers, potentially pulling even strong swimmers into deeper waters.
Beachgoers are advised to swim near lifeguards and away from rocks, jetties, and piers. If caught in a rip current, it is recommended to relax, float, and swim parallel to the shore until free from the current.
