WILMINGTON, N.C. – A weak front is keeping temperatures below seasonal norms Friday while bringing scattered showers and thunderstorms across northeast South Carolina and southeast North Carolina. Localized flooding is possible this afternoon in Williamsburg and Georgetown Counties, where heavy downpours could briefly overwhelm low-lying areas.

According to the National Weather Service in Wilmington, storms will develop mainly along the South Carolina coast, with rain chances peaking near 60 percent. Dangerous rip currents remain a concern north of Cape Fear, where beachgoers are urged to avoid swimming in the ocean.

Highs will hold near the mid-80s across Wilmington, Florence, and Lumberton, with Myrtle Beach staying slightly cooler in the low 80s under cloud cover. Rain could impact afternoon travel on Highway 17 and I-95, especially in flood-prone spots. Motorists are advised to slow down in heavy rain and watch for standing water.

The unsettled pattern should ease by late Friday night, though additional showers may return over the weekend as humidity lingers.
