Wilmington, N.C. – Coastal communities across the Carolinas are bracing for flooding through the weekend as a powerful high tide pushes water levels to near-record marks. South Carolina beaches are seeing the greatest impact Friday, with the National Weather Service warning that a crest near 8.5 feet could rank among the top 10 highest on record for Springmaid Pier in Myrtle Beach.

According to the National Weather Service in Wilmington, moderate flooding is expected for much of the South Carolina coast, while North Carolina beaches and downtown Wilmington could experience minor inundation during high tides through Sunday. Water may cover low-lying roads and parking areas, especially near tidal creeks and marshes.

Drivers are urged to avoid flooded roads and allow extra time for travel during the afternoon high tide cycle. Beachgoers and residents are also advised to secure outdoor belongings and stay alert for additional advisories if tides rise higher than expected.

Minor coastal flooding may continue intermittently through Sunday morning before tides gradually ease early next week.
