WILMINGTON, N.C. – Drivers across southeastern North Carolina face reduced visibility early Friday as dense fog covers the region, with risks of minor coastal flooding expected along the Cape Fear River later this evening.
According to the National Weather Service in Wilmington, fog could lower visibility to one-quarter mile or less in areas stretching from Lumberton and Whiteville through Wilmington, Myrtle Beach, and into northeastern South Carolina. Motorists are urged to slow down, allow extra space, and use headlights during the morning commute.
The NWS added that minor coastal flooding may occur along the Cape Fear River this evening, particularly in low-lying areas near downtown Wilmington and River Road. While widespread hazardous weather is not expected beyond today, forecasters note that fog could return in patches tonight and Saturday morning.
By the weekend, conditions improve with mostly sunny skies and highs in the mid-80s, though a slight chance of showers lingers Sunday afternoon.
Warnings remain in effect through Friday morning, with local officials reminding residents to stay alert for additional advisories if conditions worsen.
