Newport, NC – The National Weather Service in Morehead City has issued a Freeze Warning for parts of Carteret County and surrounding inland coastal areas, in effect from 2 a.m. to 8 a.m. Tuesday, as the region braces for its coldest temperatures of the season.

According to the NWS, clear skies and calm winds overnight will allow temperatures to drop to around 31°F, leading to possible frost and freeze conditions by early morning. The cold air follows a passing cold front that brought showers Sunday night, with sunny and cooler weather expected Monday and highs near 56°F.

Forecasters warn that the overnight freeze could damage sensitive vegetation and exposed outdoor plumbing if left unprotected. Residents are encouraged to bring pets indoors, cover plants, and let indoor faucets drip slightly to prevent pipe freezing.

After the cold start, Veterans Day will be sunny but chilly, with highs near 47°F and a light northwest breeze. Warmer conditions return midweek, with highs climbing back into the 60s by Wednesday and Thursday.
