EUREKA, Calif. – Unseasonably warm air will build along California’s North Coast Monday, pushing daytime highs into the mid- to upper 70s for coastal cities like Eureka, Crescent City, and Fort Bragg. Farther inland, temperatures are expected to climb into the upper 80s, creating a minor to moderate heat risk for early October.

According to the National Weather Service in Eureka, Monday’s warmth will be most noticeable along the immediate coast where sea breezes typically keep temperatures cooler. The stretch of sunshine will continue into Tuesday before clouds increase midweek, signaling a gradual return to more typical fall weather.

Residents are urged to take basic heat safety precautions — check vehicles for pets or children before exiting, ensure elderly neighbors have access to cool indoor air, and stay hydrated while outdoors. Though not extreme, these temperatures are well above seasonal norms for the coast and could stress vulnerable populations unaccustomed to heat.

Conditions are expected to moderate by Wednesday, with highs dropping back toward the low 60s and rain chances increasing late in the week.
