Clyde Township, Michigan – Two men died Tuesday after hydrogen sulfide exposure at a Clyde Township home, triggering a hazmat response.

According to the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched just before noon Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2026, to a residence in the 3900 block of Cribbins Road after Central Dispatch received reports of two unconscious men.

Authorities said the men had been working on a well at the address of the recently purchased home. Upon arrival, deputies reported detecting a chemical smell in the area.

A 20-year-old man from Riley Township and a 21-year-old man from Clyde Township were transported to a local hospital, where they were pronounced deceased, according to the sheriff’s office.

Multiple emergency agencies responded to the scene, including the St. Clair County Emergency Management Team, Clyde Township Fire Department, Tri-Hospital EMS and the St. Clair County Hazmat Team. First responders were decontaminated at the hospital as a precaution.
