Plattsburgh, NY – A routine traffic stop in the City of Plattsburgh on Tuesday led to a major drug arrest, sending a North Carolina man to jail on a felony charge, according to New York State Police.

According to New York State Police, members of Troop B’s Community Stabilization Unit initiated a traffic stop Tuesday after observing a vehicle with multiple violations while patrolling in Plattsburgh, located in Clinton County in northern New York near the Canadian border.

Police said the occupants of the vehicle were interviewed during the stop, which ultimately led to a search of the vehicle. During that investigation, troopers allegedly discovered more than half a pound of crack cocaine along with a quantity of U.S. currency consistent with drug distribution activity.

Joshua M. Boyd III, 30, of Charlotte, North Carolina, was arrested and charged with one count of criminal possession of a controlled substance in the first degree, a Class A-I felony under New York law.

State police said Boyd was taken into custody and transported to the New York State Police station in Plattsburgh for processing. He was later arraigned in Plattsburgh City Court on Tuesday.

Following the arraignment, Boyd was remanded to Clinton County Jail without bail, police confirmed.

The arrest highlights ongoing enforcement efforts by state police targeting drug trafficking and community safety issues across northern New York, particularly along major travel corridors that pass through the Plattsburgh area.
