Cleveland, Ohio – Drivers and residents across northern Ohio have a limited window to prepare as multiple rounds of storms begin impacting the region by mid-afternoon, with flooding and severe weather risks increasing into the night.
According to the National Weather Service in Cleveland, storms will develop starting around 2 p.m. and continue through midnight, bringing the potential for damaging wind gusts up to 60 mph, hail larger than 1 inch, and even an isolated tornado. At the same time, repeated rounds of rain could produce between 0.75 and 1.75 inches of rainfall across much of the region.
Cities including Cleveland, Akron, Elyria, and Youngstown are all at risk for rapidly changing conditions. Major routes such as I-90, I-77, and I-71 could see ponding water, reduced visibility, and hazardous travel during heavier downpours, especially during the evening commute.
Low-lying and flood-prone areas may quickly become overwhelmed as rain falls in multiple waves. Residents are urged to avoid flooded roadways, secure outdoor items, and ensure multiple ways to receive weather alerts.
Storms will gradually move out by midnight, but additional warnings are likely as conditions intensify through the evening hours.
