Cleveland, Ohio – Scattered thunderstorms will return to northern Ohio this afternoon, with the greatest risk for heavy downpours and lightning stretching into Wednesday night as a cold front pushes across the region. Afternoon highs today will soar into the upper 80s and mid-90s before storms build, creating potentially hazardous travel during the evening commute.
According to the National Weather Service in Cleveland, rain and thunder chances will jump sharply tonight, with storm probabilities reaching 75% in cities such as Akron, Elyria, and Findlay by early Wednesday. The most intense activity is expected Wednesday afternoon and evening, when locally heavy rainfall could lead to ponding on roads and reduced visibility.
By Thursday, only isolated showers are expected, and temperatures will cool into the upper 70s and mid-80s as drier air arrives. Travelers should watch for slick conditions late tonight through Wednesday night and remain alert for changing conditions on I-90, I-71, and other major highways.
A drying trend is forecast to take hold late week, but more rain chances could return over the weekend.
