Cleveland, Ohio – Strong thunderstorms could slam much of northern and central Ohio late Friday into early Saturday, bringing damaging wind gusts, large hail, and heavy rain that may cause localized flooding.

According to the National Weather Service in Cleveland, a Slight Risk (Level 2 of 5) for severe weather is in effect for areas along and south of the Ohio Turnpike, including Mansfield, Akron, and Canton. A Marginal Risk (Level 1 of 5) covers regions farther north such as Toledo and Cleveland. The strongest storms are expected to develop over the Ohio Valley and sweep east after sunset Friday.

Winds could gust up to 60 mph, and hail as large as quarters may fall during the peak of the storms. Flash flooding may occur in low-lying or poorly drained areas. While the tornado risk remains low, it cannot be ruled out entirely, especially in southern zones under the Slight Risk.

Drivers are urged to avoid travel during the late-night hours, secure loose outdoor items, and keep phones charged in case of power outages.

Storms are expected to taper off early Saturday morning, but more updates may follow as conditions evolve. Stay tuned to local alerts.
