Cleveland, OH — Precipitation is moving northeast into northern Ohio this morning, bringing the potential for a brief wintry mix before temperatures rise enough for a full transition to rain. The National Weather Service in Cleveland reports that dry air aloft may initially prevent precipitation from reaching the ground, but once it does, some areas could see snow or a rain/snow mix at the onset.
If this early wintry mix develops, slippery spots are possible, particularly on untreated roads, sidewalks, and bridges. The window for wintry weather is mostly during the early morning hours, with locations such as Akron-Canton, Ashtabula, Elyria, Medina, Sandusky, Fremont, and Youngstown showing mixed precipitation icons between roughly 7 AM and noon.
Rain becomes much more likely by midday and afternoon, with precipitation chances rising into the 70–90% range across most of northern Ohio. Cities including Cleveland, Toledo, Fremont, Findlay, and Akron will see widespread rain through much of the afternoon and early evening.
Snow or mixed precipitation is not expected later in the day, as temperatures steadily climb above freezing. By late afternoon and evening, the weather pattern will be dominated by rain with little to no additional winter weather concerns.
The NWS emphasizes that while the wintry mix will be brief and limited, it could still create hazardous travel conditions during the morning commute—especially in areas where snow mixes in before temperatures warm.
Residents should allow for extra travel time and remain aware of changing conditions through late morning.
