Cleveland, Ohio – Thunderstorms are building along the I-90 corridor in northeast Ohio and northwest Pennsylvania this afternoon, bringing a risk of torrential rain, strong wind gusts, and frequent lightning. Drivers along the Lake Erie shoreline could see rapidly changing road conditions as storms move northeast through early evening.
According to the National Weather Service in Cleveland, a secondary band of storms over southern Michigan is pushing southeast and is expected to enter northwest Ohio later today. These cells may intensify as they arrive, with the potential for localized flooding in low-lying areas and brief but dangerous wind gusts.
The strongest storms are most likely in interior northeast Ohio and parts of northwest Pennsylvania. Lightning strikes and heavy rain could briefly reduce visibility on I-90, I-480, and nearby secondary roads. Officials advise delaying unnecessary travel until the storms pass and ensuring devices are charged in case of power outages.
Storm chances will diminish overnight, but unsettled conditions may return midweek.
