Cleveland, OH – The National Weather Service in Cleveland is warning residents across northeast Ohio to take precautions as dangerously cold temperatures settle in Thursday night.

Forecasts call for overnight lows between 5°F and 9°F, with daytime highs only reaching the low to mid-20s under partly sunny skies. The NWS cautions that prolonged exposure to the cold can quickly lead to frostbite or hypothermia, especially for those not dressed appropriately.

Residents are urged to dress in multiple loose layers, cover all exposed skin, and limit time outdoors. The agency also recommends consuming hot foods and warm drinks, while avoiding alcohol and caffeine, which can increase the risk of cold-related illness.

“Winter cold can be deadly unless proper care is taken,” meteorologists warned, reminding residents to check on neighbors, the elderly, and pets. Even animals with thick fur coats need dry, insulated shelter and should not be left outdoors for extended periods.

While the cold will be brief, forecasters say another Arctic air mass could arrive later this weekend. For the latest weather and safety updates, visit weather.gov/cle or follow @NWSCleveland on social media.
