Cleveland, Ohio – A significant winter storm is set to impact much of north central and northeast Ohio beginning Saturday night, bringing heavy snowfall, bitter cold, and hazardous travel conditions that could linger into the Monday morning commute.

According to the National Weather Service in Cleveland, a Winter Storm Warning remains in effect from 7 p.m. Saturday until 10 a.m. Monday for a wide portion of the region, including Cuyahoga, Lorain, Lake, Geauga, Medina, Summit, Portage, Stark, Mahoning, Trumbull, Wayne, Ashland, Holmes, and Ashtabula counties. Snow accumulations of 6 to 12 inches are expected, with the heaviest snowfall likely during the day Sunday.

Statewide and regional impacts will focus on travel and safety. Snow will spread into the area Saturday night and intensify Sunday, leading to snow-covered roads, reduced visibility, and difficult driving conditions. Major routes including Interstate 71, Interstate 77, Interstate 90, and the Ohio Turnpike could become slow or impassable at times as plows struggle to keep up with snowfall rates.

In the Cleveland metro, Akron, Canton, Youngstown, and surrounding communities, residents should prepare for prolonged snow and dangerously cold wind chills. Sub-zero wind chills are expected late Saturday night into Sunday morning and again Sunday night into Monday morning, increasing the risk of frostbite for anyone exposed for extended periods.

Officials urge residents to delay unnecessary travel, especially overnight and during the peak of the storm Sunday. Those who must drive should keep emergency supplies in their vehicles and check conditions on OHGO before heading out.

The Winter Storm Warning remains in effect through Monday morning, and hazardous conditions are expected to impact the start of the workweek. Additional updates may be issued as the storm evolves.
