Cleveland, Ohio – Scattered thunderstorms could sweep across northern and central Ohio Tuesday afternoon and evening, bringing the threat of strong to damaging wind gusts.
According to the National Weather Service in Cleveland, a marginal risk of severe weather covers much of the state, including Cleveland, Akron, Columbus, and surrounding areas. Storms are expected to develop by mid-afternoon and continue into early tonight, with isolated cells capable of producing damaging winds.
Travelers along I-71 from Cleveland to Columbus, as well as I-77 near Akron and Canton, should be prepared for sudden downpours and reduced visibility during the evening commute. Power outages are possible if stronger gusts down tree limbs or power lines.
Residents with outdoor plans are advised to stay weather aware, secure loose objects, and have a safe place to shelter if warnings are issued. NWS officials recommend enabling audible weather alerts on mobile devices to stay informed.
The storm threat should diminish late tonight, but additional unsettled weather may return later this week.
