Cleveland, Ohio – Patchy fog gave Northeast Ohio a slow start Friday morning, but skies are expected to turn mostly sunny as the day goes on, improving conditions across the region.
According to the National Weather Service in Cleveland, light northeast winds between 5 and 10 knots will keep Lake Erie relatively calm, producing waves of just 1 to 2 feet. That shift brings a much safer outlook for boaters and beachgoers after several days of choppier waters earlier in the week.
Temperatures will rise into the low to mid-80s for much of northern Ohio, with highs near 83 in Akron, 82 in Mansfield, and 81 in Sandusky. Cleveland and Youngstown are also expected to reach the low 80s under clear skies this afternoon. The calmer conditions are expected to draw more visitors to Lake Erie beaches, where rip current risks remain low today.
Travelers should remain cautious in the early morning hours, as lingering fog could reduce visibility on highways, especially along I-71 and I-80 corridors. Once fog lifts, driving conditions will improve significantly.
The National Weather Service says sunshine and calmer lake waters will hold through the weekend, offering a stretch of favorable weather for outdoor activities.
