Cleveland, Ohio – Swimmers along the Lake Erie shoreline are being urged to stay out of the water through Monday evening as dangerous rip currents continue to build. Strong winds and high waves are creating hazardous conditions from Lorain County eastward to Ashtabula, as well as in northern Erie County, Pennsylvania.

According to the National Weather Service in Cleveland, the high risk of rip currents will last until Monday evening, driven by steady wave action along the lakeshore. Officials warn that currents can quickly sweep swimmers away from shore or pull them along piers and breakwalls, making rescue efforts difficult.

Beachgoers in Cuyahoga County, including the Cleveland lakefront, should avoid swimming and stay onshore. Erie County, Pennsylvania, is under the same advisory, with Presque Isle State Park among the most impacted areas. Local authorities emphasize that even strong swimmers are at risk in these conditions.

Visitors are advised to enjoy the beaches from land and to keep children away from the waterline until conditions improve. The risk will ease by late Monday as waves gradually subside, but additional advisories may be issued if winds shift again along the lake.
