CLEVELAND, Ohio – Northeast Ohio will wake up to widespread rain and scattered thunderstorms Thursday as a cold front pushes through the state, slowing the morning commute and ushering in a dramatic shift in temperatures.
According to the National Weather Service in Cleveland, showers and storms are most likely during the morning hours, with some lingering into midday. Behind the front, a much cooler air mass will settle in, bringing highs only in the mid-60s to near 70 through the weekend.
The heaviest rain is expected along the I-71 corridor from Mansfield through Cleveland and north into Ashtabula County. Motorists should be prepared for wet roads during the morning rush, while outdoor workers and early risers should keep rain gear close at hand.
By Thursday evening, drier air will move in, though brisk northwest winds could make conditions feel even cooler. Residents are urged to keep jackets handy, especially for evening events or Friday night football games across northern Ohio.
Cooler-than-normal weather will dominate through early next week, with additional chances for showers late Sunday into Monday.
