Ohio wakes to a hard, metallic cold that rattles windows and bites exposed skin. Streetlights reflect off frozen pavement as Lake Erie feeds passing snow bands. Conditions feel raw and unforgiving early this morning.
An Extreme Cold Warning remains in effect for Cleveland and much of northern Ohio through late morning. Wind chills have plunged as low as 20 to 25 degrees below zero. Frostbite can occur in minutes without proper protection. A Cold Weather Advisory follows tonight into Wednesday morning.
Current temperatures hover near 3 degrees at the lakeshore. Wind chills sit closer to 17 below. Snow showers are developing, especially east of downtown, driven by lake-enhanced flow. Brief bursts may reduce visibility quickly on I-90, I-77, and surface streets.
Through the day, clouds hold firm as scattered snow showers continue. Some locations could pick up a dusting to a half-inch, mainly east and southeast of Cleveland. Highs struggle to reach 20 degrees, and the cold never really loosens its grip.
Tonight turns sharply colder again. Temperatures fall near zero, and untreated roads refreeze fast. This is prime flash-freeze territory after daytime melting. Drivers should expect slick ramps and bridges by evening.
Wednesday brings partial sunshine but little warmth. Highs stay near 13 degrees with lingering lake clouds. A few light snow showers remain possible overnight into early Thursday, though accumulation looks minor.
Thursday trends quieter with more sun and highs near 14. Friday stays cold, topping out near 10, with dry but biting conditions. Winter remains firmly in control heading into the weekend.
Looking ahead, 6–10 day outlooks suggest drier conditions with precipitation chances decreasing next week. Temperatures may moderate slightly, though cold air still dominates the eastern U.S.
Limit time outdoors, dress in layers, and plan extra travel time today. How are conditions where you are—steady snow, blowing flakes, or just brutal cold?
