Cleveland, Ohio – Drivers across the Cleveland metro area could encounter rapidly changing road conditions today as brief bursts of snow move through with a passing cold front.
According to the National Weather Service in Cleveland, snow showers are expected at times this morning and afternoon as a cold front pushes west to east across northern Ohio. While snowfall will be short-lived, heavier bursts could quickly coat roadways, reducing visibility and creating slick conditions in a matter of minutes.
Roads such as Interstate 90, Interstate 71, Interstate 77, and Route 2 along the lakeshore may become snow-covered during the strongest snow showers. Visibility could drop quickly, especially during heavier bursts, making travel hazardous for short periods. Even areas that remain snow-free earlier in the day could see sudden changes as showers move through.
Behind the front, temperatures are expected to fall sharply tonight, dropping into the teens. Wind chills by early Sunday morning may approach or dip slightly below zero, increasing the risk of refreezing on any wet or slushy road surfaces.
Drivers are urged to slow down during snow bursts, avoid sudden braking, and allow extra stopping distance. Conditions may improve between showers, but lingering icy spots are likely to persist overnight as colder air settles in. Additional updates may be issued if snow showers become more widespread or intense.
