Cleveland, Ohio – An arctic air mass is expected to arrive late this weekend, bringing dangerously cold wind chills between −10° and −20°F across the Cleveland area early next week, according to the National Weather Service.

In a Friday morning update, forecasters said the coldest conditions are expected Monday night through Tuesday morning, when strong winds combine with very low temperatures to create life-threatening cold exposure risks across northeast Ohio, including Cuyahoga, Lorain, Lake, Medina, and Summit counties.

The National Weather Service warned that frostbite can occur in as little as 15 to 30 minutes on exposed skin during the coldest periods. Residents are urged to limit time outdoors, dress in layers, and cover all exposed skin. Checking on elderly neighbors, bringing pets indoors, and ensuring adequate home heating are strongly recommended.

In addition to the cold, several clipper systems are expected to move through the region, bringing periods of widespread light snow from late weekend into midweek. While snow amounts are expected to remain generally light, repeated snowfalls combined with extreme cold could create slick road conditions and complicate travel.

Morning wind chills may remain below zero through midweek, even as daytime temperatures slowly recover. Vehicles may struggle to start, and emergency kits are recommended for anyone traveling during this period.

Residents across the Cleveland metro area should closely monitor forecast updates as the arctic air arrives and prepare now for the coldest conditions of the season.
