Cleveland, OH – Winter has locked in across Northeast Ohio and Northwest Pennsylvania, where lake effect snow and brutal cold continue to build through the weekend. Snow bands along I-90 from Cleveland to Erie are producing steady accumulations, reducing visibility and creating slick roadways during the Thursday morning commute.
According to the National Weather Service in Cleveland, Winter Weather Advisories remain in effect for parts of Ashtabula, Geauga, and Lake Counties, while a Winter Storm Warning continues for Erie County, Pennsylvania through early Friday. Snow totals of 2 to 4 inches are likely across Crawford County, PA, with 3 to 5 inches possible inland from Erie, and 1 to 3 inches near Mentor and Chardon, Ohio.
Snowfall rates may briefly approach 1 inch per hour in the heaviest bands, particularly near Edinboro and Corry, Pennsylvania. Drivers should expect poor visibility and icy pavement, especially during the evening commute.
By the weekend, a reinforcing blast of Arctic air will drop lows into the teens and single digits, with wind chills between –5°F and –10°F possible Saturday night into Sunday. Even as snow tapers, the coldest air of the season will linger into early next week, prompting reminders to check on neighbors, limit outdoor exposure, and prepare vehicles for extreme cold.
