Cleveland, Ohio – Sunshine will give way to a wet start to the week as widespread rain moves across northern Ohio beginning late Sunday. By Monday, rain chances surge as high as 75 percent in Cleveland, Akron-Canton, and Toledo, with scattered thunderstorms possible through Tuesday night.

According to the National Weather Service Cleveland office, showers will gradually develop Sunday afternoon and strengthen into Monday morning. The heaviest rainfall is expected during the Monday morning commute, with downpours and possible thunderstorms creating slick highways across I-71, I-90, and I-76. Odds of rain remain above 60 percent in most cities through Tuesday, including Youngstown, Mansfield, and Sandusky.

Drivers are urged to plan for slower travel, particularly during peak commuting hours. Local emergency officials recommend keeping headlights on in heavy rain, watching for hydroplaning on secondary roads, and checking sump pumps in flood-prone basements.

While the pattern lingers into midweek, the National Weather Service noted the rain will not be a total washout. Scattered showers may still hang around through Wednesday before drier weather returns late week. Additional advisories could be issued if thunderstorm activity strengthens.
