Cleveland, Ohio — Strong to severe thunderstorms may develop across northern Ohio and northwest Pennsylvania Saturday as a cold front moves through the region.

According to the National Weather Service in Cleveland, storms could begin developing late Saturday morning with the main window for severe weather expected between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m.

Much of northeast Ohio and nearby areas are under a Level 2 “Slight Risk” for severe thunderstorms, meaning scattered strong storms are possible.

The primary threat will be damaging wind gusts up to 60 mph, which could down tree limbs or cause isolated power outages.

Meteorologists say lightning and brief heavy rainfall are also likely with stronger storm cells.

While the tornado threat remains low, forecasters say an isolated tornado cannot be ruled out, particularly in the area highlighted for higher localized risk.

Communities including Cleveland, Akron, Youngstown, Mansfield, and surrounding areas could see storms develop ahead of the advancing cold front.

Storm timing may shift slightly as the system moves east through the afternoon.

Residents are encouraged to monitor forecast updates and ensure weather alerts are enabled on mobile devices in case warnings are issued.

Drivers may also encounter brief heavy rain and sudden wind gusts, which could reduce visibility during the afternoon hours.
