Ohio wakes up under gray skies as rain taps steadily on pavement and fog blurs the morning commute across northeast Ohio. Wet roads shine under headlights, and melting snow adds another layer of concern in the Cleveland area.
According to the National Weather Service in Cleveland, dreary conditions dominate today with light rain, drizzle, and patchy fog. Temperatures climb into the mid-40s, allowing remaining snow piles to continue melting. While the mild air feels like a break from winter, it creates slick travel conditions on untreated roads and parking lots.
Visibility may drop quickly in pockets of fog, especially during the early commute and near the lakeshore. Drivers should slow down, use headlights, and allow extra stopping distance. To be fair, rainfall stays light, but persistent drizzle keeps roads wet for much of the day.
Tonight brings another shift. Light rain transitions to snow showers in the snowbelt as colder air filters back in. While widespread accumulation is not expected, brief bursts of snow could reduce visibility and create slushy patches, especially east of Cleveland.
The warming trend pauses midweek, but winter does not loosen its grip. Additional unsettled weather is expected later this week, followed by cooler air heading into the weekend. Any standing water left behind today could freeze overnight, raising the risk for black ice during late-night and early-morning travel.
Residents should stay weather-aware and be cautious on bridges, ramps, and shaded roadways. After all, January weather often turns routine drives into risky ones with little warning.
