Cleveland, OH – Lake-effect snow will gradually diminish across northeast Ohio and northwest Pennsylvania today, though additional accumulation remains possible in higher terrain east of Cleveland before conditions improve this evening, according to the National Weather Service in Cleveland.

Forecasters say bands of lake-effect snow will weaken through the day as winds shift and moisture decreases. Additional snowfall of 2 to 4 inches remains possible in Ashtabula County, Ohio, and in the higher terrain of Erie and Crawford counties in northwest Pennsylvania, where snow showers may persist longest.

Travel could be difficult at times in these areas due to slippery road conditions and reduced visibility, particularly during the morning hours when snow bands are still active. Impacts will depend on the exact placement and persistence of the remaining lake-effect bands.

Elsewhere across northeast Ohio, including the Cleveland metro area, snowfall impacts are expected to be more limited as lake-enhanced snow showers continue to taper. Temperatures today are forecast to remain cold, with highs generally in the low to mid-20s, keeping untreated roads icy in spots.

Looking ahead, forecasters note that another round of light lake-enhanced snow showers may return Saturday night, mainly affecting areas northeast of Cleveland and into northwest Pennsylvania. Accumulations with this round are expected to be 2 inches or less, with minor impacts.

By Sunday, drier weather is expected area-wide, with partial sunshine and continued cold temperatures. A broader pattern shift is then expected early next week, bringing warmer temperatures back to the region and allowing lingering snow cover to slowly melt.

Drivers traveling today, especially in snowbelt areas near Lake Erie, are urged to allow extra time and remain cautious until road conditions improve later today.
